C.K. Prahalad, author of "The Voxiva Story", featured in BusinessWeek
(January 23, 2006)

Best selling author C.K. Prahalad is described as a "One-Man Idea Lab" and his book "Fortune at the bottom of the Pyramid", which features Voxiva throughout and includes a full chapter detailing "The Voxiva Story", is "...hailed as one of the most important business books in recent years"

The article "Business Prophet - How strategy guru C.K. Prahalad is changing the way CEOs think" by Pete Engardio appears in the January 23, 2006 edition of BusinessWeek and declares "Few strategic thinkers have developed as many influential global management theories over the past two decades as C.K. Prahalad."

Prahalad's book "Fortune at the bottom of the Pyramid: Eradicating Poverty Through Profits" was published in 2004 by Wharton School Publishing and argues that Bottom of the Pyramid (BOP) markets can be served profitably if companies are willing to take innovative approaches to product development.

Voxiva is one of 12 companies highlighted in Prahalad's book. Each company challenges the current models in innovation and product service delivery in fundamental ways, writes Prahalad. "These businesses all are motivated by the same concern: They want to change the face of poverty by bringing to bear a combination of high-technology solutions, private enterprise, market-based solutions and involvement of multiple organizations," He continues "They are solving real problems."

The book highlights the Voxiva story in an 18-page chapter. Prahalad defines Voxiva as a company that "went against the grain" to deploy a web-based, real-time disease surveillance system that doesn't require all health facilities to have a PC. Instead, Voxiva implemented a PC-compatible solution for the Ministry of Health of Peru that allowed health workers to use existing infrastructure - telephones and mobile phones - to report incidents of disease.

"Voxiva illustrates how (businesses) can demonstrate the development of fundamentally new solutions to age-old problems, (including) providing public health access to and warning of latent outbreaks of disease in remote areas," the book states.
