Voxiva launches first Citizen Security solution in Argentina
Pergamino 28 February, 2006 - Voxiva today formally launched Voxiva
CitizenNetTM to the citizens of Pergamino,
Argentina. The launch in Pergamino, a city of 70,000 outside Buenos
Aires, is the first deployment of Voxiva's citizen security application
in Argentina but follows previous successful deployments by Voxiva
in Peru, including the municipalities of Milaflores, La Molina and
San Isidro. The launch was attended by the Mayor of Pergamino as well
as mayors from other surrounding municipalities, and was covered by
the national media including La Naci-n, a prominent national newspaper
in Argentina, as well as being featured on Channel 13's nightly magazine
program "Telenoche".
Voxiva CitizenNetTM provides local governments with a powerful tool to engage directly with citizens to track and respond to crime more effectively and improve the quality of public services. CitizenNetTM lets citizens report crimes and other incidents directly into the system using the web, mobile phones and fixed-line phones. Government officials can use CitizenNetTM to monitor the reports in real-time, make more informed decisions, manage the response and track the results. In Pergamino citizens access the Voxiva CitizenNetTM solution, known locally as 108 Alerta Pergamino, by dialing 108 from anywhere within the Municipality. The solution is also aligned with the national 911 service, allowing major emergencies to be handled by national rather than local authorities.
The Mayor of Pergamino told La Naci-n "The idea is that all neighbors become security guards for public safety. We believe that by following up on their complaints the citizen becomes committed to the system and takes it on as a responsibility. By receiving calls from our operators the neighbor feels he is being heard and taken seriously."
"This will be the first of many such deployments in Argentina" said Pablo Bermudez, Voxiva's Director of Electronic Government, Latin America & the Caribbean "Our goal is to help governments and local authorities in underserved countries and regions improve public safety and citizen participation. The Pergamino deployment in Argentina follows a number of successful implementations in Peru, where we have already demonstrated the benefits of the solution".
